Official statement by president Jonathan after the announcement of the results of presidential election Fellow Nigerians, I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure. Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress. INEC Declares Buhari Winner Of 2015 Presidential Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally announced the results for the last Saturday’s Presidential election. According to the commission, the All Progressive Congress (APC) polled a total of 15,424,921 to defeat the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who only got 12, 853,162 votes. Other parties and their results are as follows: Announcing the results, Chairman of the commission, Prof Attahiru Jega noted that there were a total of 31,746,490 accredited voters. According to him, the total number of votes cast on the Election day stood at 29,432,083, out of which 844,519 votes were rejected and another 28,587,564 voted considered valid. Troops battle Boko Haram near Bauchi: residents, military

Kano - Troops battled scores of Boko Haram fighters outside the northeastern city of Bauchi on Sunday, residents and a military source told AFP. Soldiers supported by two fighter jets intercepted the militants who were in 20 pick-up trucks at Dungulbe village, seven kilometres (four miles) from the city, and engaged them in fierce fighting. "The fighter jets are pounding the enemy position while ground troops are engaging them," said a military officer in the city, who asked not to be identified, in an account supported by residents. "The operation is still ongoing but the terrorists have suffered serious losses and are in disarray," the officer added. The fighting was taking place as Nigeria was holding a second day of voting in its general election after technology failures hampered polling on Saturday. Amaechi Wants Rivers State Election Canceled

In an exclusive interview with SaharaTV, Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi says that he believes that today’s presidential elections held in River State were irreparably compromised, and the results must be cancelled. Amaechi, all All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, alleges that interference on the party of the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has adversely influenced the result of the contest. BREAKING: INEC SAYS ELECTION CONTINUES TOMORROW

INEC just announced via its newly created Twitter account for alerts @INECAlert that elections will be postponed till tomorrow in some polling units. This affects areas where accreditation has been slow or impossible due to card reader errors. Accreditation will be suspended in some polling units to the next day in accordance with the 2015 general elections guidelines where card readers fail to work and cannot be replaced.

Jonathan Asks Court To Set Aside Order Barring Soldiers From Elections by Slynonny (m): 6:35am lagos—President Goodluck Jonathan, has asked the Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, to set aside the Federal High Court order, which restrained him from deploying soldiers to assist the police in providing security during the general elections, which is starting tomorrow across the country. The judge at the lower court, Justice Ibrahim Buba, had in the suit by a House of Representatives member, Femi Gbajabiamil held that the President cannot deploy soldiers without the National Assembly’s approval. Military Deploys 2 Fighter Jets, 4 Attack Helicopters To Rescue Chibok Girls In Gwoza

A coordinated attack is set to be carried out by the military to liberate Gwoza, Borno State, from Boko Haram captivity as the defence authorities have deployed four attack helicopters and two air force fighter jets to flush out the terrorists in the areas. A reliable source in the military told our correspondent on Thursday that the attack helicopters and the fighter jets departed Yola, Adamawa State, at about 3pm, heading for Gwoza, the last town in Borno State under the control of terror sect. Nigeria Immigration Recruitment: Applicants To Undergo CBT To Avoid Another Stampede

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said Computer-Based Test (CBT) would be used to conduct examinations for applicants of the 2015 recruitment into the service. Mr. Chukwuemeka Obua, the Public Relations Officer of the service, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday. Obua said this was to prevent a reoccurrence of the 2014 recruitment where a stampede was recorded at various centres across the country due to large crowd of applicants. He said the CBT would also be used to conduct the examination in order to test the computer literacy level of applicants. He said this was a basic requirement for employment into the service. “ This is the process that will be adopted for the recruitment in order to prevent the reoccurrence of the past incident.
